Happy St. Patrick's Day!

How do we celebrate St. Patrick's day in speech? I started by changing our bulletin board to a bright, and inspirational St. Patty's day theme. It really brightened up the speech room!

I found a link on a great speech blog, Speech Time Fun, for a printable book, The Lucky Leprechaun. Lucky visits many places and finds gold! We answered "wh" questions, labeled vocabulary, and practiced our best speech (especially the /l/ sound!). After reading the story, we had our own hunt for gold (easy to change over our winter sensory bin). So much fun!

Another great printable is Have You Seen My Pot of Gold?, by Scholastic. You can find the link here. A leprechaun asks different animals if they have seen his gold, until he finally finds it! We read the story, colored the pages, and retold the story using wooden animals.

What's Happening In Speech?

We have been very busy wrapping up winter, and getting excited about SPRING! I can't wait to start all of the fun themes that come with the change in season (still trying to adjust to the time change though).

Although spring is just around the corner, here in Maryland we were expecting a BIG snow storm last week. Perfect! I still had a few winter snow themed books that I wanted to get to. One of my ALL time favorites is Katy and the Big Snow, by Virginia Lee Burton. Katy is a tractor with a bulldozer in the summer, and a snow plow in the winter. During a BIG snow, Katy is called on to dig out the city of Geopolis.

We had fun helping to dig out our own community! We took turns choosing a vehicle to dig out. Our activity gave many opportunities for: responding to "wh" questions, requesting, describing, and (of course) using our BEST speech!
